Rahul, Amarinder differences come to fore

New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Punjab chief minister Amrinder Singh who have held different views on more than one issue are not on the same page on renovation of 1919 Jallianwala Bagh mass massacre memorial in Punjab.

Rahul and some others including opposition parties which find fault with anything the government does are opposed to changes made at the British firing site which had led to killings of more than a thousand innocent Indians protesting against a new law.

Changes, informed sources say, were approved, among others, by Singh.“I don’t know what has been removed. Whatever I saw that night (at the time of inauguration), it looked very nice to me”, he has been quoted as saying.

Rahul does not agree In a tweet he said, “Such an insult to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh can only be done by those who do not know the meaning of martyrdom. I am the son of a martyr- I will not tolerate the insult of martyrs at any cost”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the renovated Bagh on Saturday.
